GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR GLYCOL EQUIPMENT

LET'S SAVE YOU SOME BUCKS!

Run your chillers harder at night and save big.

The air is cooler at night. Crash tanks at night when the air is cool. Maintain the tanks during the day and save big. This can easily save up to 20% of overall cooling energy.

Nighttime building cooling.
Bring in low-temperature night air to cool the building further.

Tank insulation.
Spray-on, foil-covered bubble wrap, and rigid foam all work. This can reduce refrigeration cost by 15-60%.
Raise the temperature, check for dead loss.
Refrigeration systems run more efficiently at lower temperatures differentials. Raise the glycol temperature and save 2 to 3% for each degree.

Shut off empty tanks, barrel rooms, and other peripherals that are not needed.

Properly sequence compressors.
Compressors operate most efficiently at full load. Tanktemp offers dual and single stage units. If you do have a dual system, the most efficient operation is ensuring that one compressor then the second compressor operates in sequence or as needed.

Proper venting and air flow.
Venting is key! Chillers move heat from one place to another, like from your tanks to the air. Vent the air away from the chiller; do not recycle that heated air. Inside or out, the chiller needs proper air flow and clean coils. Covers over outdoor units may trap heat; use a fan to move that air. Chillers need at least 24” of air space around them to allow air to exchange.  The cooler the air, the better your unit works.

OK, time to upgrade the chiller.
Best money saving tip ever: buy a Tanktemp chiller.

We don’t build hacked up A/C units; we build refrigeration-grade chillers for breweries, distilleries and wineries only, and there is a world of difference. Always over-built, never over-engineered.

If you have one of our units, expect to get 20+ years of reliable service.  Anyone else's stuff, expect two to ten.
